Swordfish is a 2016 American action thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by Peter Landesman. It stars Chris Evans, Mélanie Laurent, David Dastmalchian, Scott Eastwood, and John Krasinski. In the film's plot, a down-on-his-luck ex-mercenary is hired to assassinate a high-profile politician from his former profession with a cyberweapon that has the potential to destroy national security. After a one-man war between Russian and Chinese forces in the Black Sea, former mercenary turned UN operative Scott Lang (Chris Evans) is approached by the United States Department of Defense, who ask him to work as their consultant on cyber warfare. One of the potential targets he is asked to protect is Cambodian ambassador Koa Kravchenko (David Dastmalchian), who has been involved in a train bombing that killed over 100 people and injured hundreds more. The DoD's computer forensics expert tells Lang that Kravchenko's email has been compromised by one of the world's most dangerous cyber weapons. Lang's job is to apprehend Kravchenko immediately to prevent him from using the weapon. After Lang recovers an email sent by Kravchenko, he discovers that his wife is among the dead, that he has lost his daughter, and that he has also lost his baby son. To help cope with all of this, Lang's best friend, Scottie (Abbie Cornish), tells him about their old Vietnamese friend named Pho King Dang (John Cusack), who became a successful business man in America after being kidnapped during the war . She also tells him about her mother's American boyfriend Paul Castle. When Lang obtains a list of Kravchenko's employees, he learns that his wife is one of them. With the help of Scottie and Pho King Dang, Lang infiltrates an office and meets with Andrea (Mélanie Laurent), who tells him that she was sent to Cambodia by Kravchenko. Lang's attempt to capture her is successful but she escapes and he is recaptured. Lang awakens in a room with the new DoD contractor, Kurt Hendricks (David Dastmalchian), who tells him he is there to finish off what he started on behalf of the United States government. The two of them fight, and Lang's knowledge of the layout of the building helps him subdue Kurt. Lang races to his car, where he tells Scottie to drive him to Kravchenko's house, but after realizing that they are being followed by Cambodian mercenaries, he tells her to continue driving downtown. Lang hopes that Andrea will meet them there. Lang then chases after Andrea just as she is about to board a train that will take her out of Cambodia.
